Gallery Index – Woodturning

Here are galleries of Scott Hime’s finished woodturning pieces.

Segmented

Segmented Woodturning is where lumber is cut into small angled pieces and glued together into rings that are glued together to create a design and turned on the lathe to create your final piece.

Segmented Boxes

Segmented Woodturning techniques are used to create a box with a lid. Most of the boxes are 4 – 6 inches in size. They can be used to hold jewelry, watches, maybe a coin collection.

Basket Illusion

After using Segmented construction of the vessel, it is divided into small squares with both a beading tool and pyrography techniques and each small square is hand painted to reveal the intended design.

Traditional Turnings

Traditional turning is where a piece of wood is placed on the lathe and turned into a bowl, vase, platter or any other shape I wish to create. The used is usually straight from the tree and often very wet.

Painted Wide Rimmed Bowls

These are created from a 2″ thick piece of lumber and turned into a shallow bowl shape. It is then taken off of the lathe and is painted with acrylic using various techniques. It is then remounted on the the lathe and the center bowl shape is turned.
